Privacy Policy for FIREcalc
Last Updated: October 26, 2026
Welcome to FIREcalc! This Privacy Policy explains how FIREcalc ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with your use of the FIREcalc application (the "App"). Your privacy is important to us.
1. Information We Collect (and What We Don't)
FIREcalc is designed with your privacy in mind.
- Calculator Input Data: When you use the Savings Simulator or Retirement Simulator, you provide financial information such as your age, current savings, income, expenses, retirement goals, and investment strategies ("Calculator Data"). The simulations run locally in your browser. We do not send Calculator Data to an AI service, and we do not store it on our servers. The app may save your inputs in your browser's local storage so the form can be restored, and a share link puts those inputs in the page URL. A share link can appear in your browser history and in ordinary hosting logs.
- No account required: FIREcalc does not require you to create a user account, or to provide your name or email address, to use the calculators.
- Optional email signup: If you use “Email me my FIRE plan,” we store the email address you type, the time, the consent sentence shown next to the checkbox, a short label for which page the form was on, an unsubscribe token, and the share link you chose to save. We do not add a separate copy of your age, balances, income, or spending. Those figures are only inside that share link, the same way they are in a link you copy from the calculator. We hash the connection address to limit repeated signup attempts and delete those counters within two days. We do not keep the address itself. If you do not submit the form, none of this is stored.
- Usage Data (Standard Web Logs): Like most websites and online services, our hosting provider (e.g., Cloudflare) may collect standard technical information when you access the App online (e.g., via
firecalc.ai). This may include IP addresses, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages visited. This information is typically aggregated and used for statistical purposes, to maintain service security, and to improve the App. This data is subject to the privacy policy of our hosting provider and is not directly linked by us to your specific Calculator Data.
- Analytics:
- Google Analytics 4: We use Google Analytics 4 on the public FIREcalc site (
https://firecalc.ai) to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics may collect page views, device and browser information, approximate geographic region, and the referring website or URL. Google Analytics uses cookies (or similar technologies) to distinguish browsers and measure visits. We use this information in aggregate to understand traffic and improve the App. We do not send your Calculator Data, name, email, or other personal identifiers through Google Analytics, and we do not link these analytics signals to your Calculator Data. Google's processing of this information is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can also read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics may collect privacy-friendly usage metrics for the hosted site, such as page views and general traffic patterns. These metrics are not linked by us to your Calculator Data. Cloudflare's handling of this information is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
2. Optional plan email
The email form is optional. The calculators work if you never use it.
- What the button does today: It saves the row described above in a Cloudflare D1 database bound to this site as
FIRECALC_SIGNUPS. Email sending is not connected. Nothing is mailed until a later step turns sending on. The form says that.
- Why it is stored: So FIREcalc can later email you that share link and a monthly reminder to re-check the plan. We do not sell the list, and we do not use it to advertise third-party products.
- The share link is the plan: Opening it shows the inputs that were in the address. Treat a stored link the way you would treat a note that contains those numbers. Hosting logs can also contain the address of a page you requested.
- Delete: Use the unsubscribe page and enter the same email address. That deletes the row. The page says the same thing if the address was not on the list. A deletion code, if a future email includes one, can be sent to
POST /api/unsubscribe and deletes that one row. There is no separate archive.
- If the database is not connected: The form reports that signup is not available. The calculator still runs in your browser.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To Provide App Functionality: Your Calculator Data is used locally on your device to perform the financial simulations and display the results and charts you request within the App. Inputs saved in local storage stay on that device.
- To keep an optional reminder list: An email address and share link you submit are stored so we can send that link back and remind you to re-check the plan. Sending is not active yet.
- To Improve the App: Aggregated usage information from Google Analytics 4, Cloudflare Web Analytics, and standard web logs may be used to understand how people use the App, to monitor performance, and to guide improvements. This usage information is separate from your Calculator Data. We do not send your email address or share link through Google Analytics.
4. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your Calculator Data.
- Service Providers: We use third-party service providers for hosting and analytics. Cloudflare hosts the site and may collect standard web logs and privacy-friendly Web Analytics metrics. Google Analytics 4 receives the analytics signals described above (page views, device and browser, approximate region, and referrer). These providers have their own privacy policies. We do not send Calculator Data or your email address to Google Analytics. If you open a share link, the query string is part of that request. If you opt in to the email form, that share link is stored in Cloudflare D1, as described above.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend our rights or property, prevent fraud, act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the App, or protect against legal liability.
5. Data Security
- Calculator Data: Simulations run locally. Inputs kept in local storage are only as private as the browser profile on that device. Share links contain the inputs in the URL. A share link you submit with the email form is stored in the D1 database described above.
- We take reasonable steps to protect any information we handle, but no security system is impenetrable.
6. Third-Party Services
- Google Analytics 4: The public site uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google. It may record page views, device and browser type, approximate region, and referrer. You can review Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare: The FIREcalc website and PWA are hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare Web Analytics may also collect privacy-friendly usage metrics. The optional email list, when the binding is connected, is stored in Cloudflare D1. You can review Cloudflare's privacy policy on their website.
- The App may contain links to other websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites or services.
7. Link-only MCP (draft)
FIREcalc may offer a separate hosted tool, an MCP server, that builds share links and challenge links for https://firecalc.ai. That server is a draft for connector testing. It is not a calculator, and it is not part of the static site.
- It does not run savings or retirement simulations, stress-pack trials, or any success-rate math.
- If you use it, the parameters you ask it to place in a link (ages, dollar amounts, tax settings, and similar) are sent to that server in the tool request so it can write the URL.
- The server is built not to write those request bodies, tool arguments, or dollar amounts to logs, and not to store them as an account or a saved plan.
- The URL it returns contains the same parameters, just like a share link copied from the calculator. Treat that URL as a note that contains the numbers.
- The calculator at firecalc.ai still runs in your browser. Connecting the draft MCP does not move that math onto a server.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, including an email signup, we will take steps to delete such information.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our website. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
